And its a wrap for the prestigious 2016 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ). Kudos to Central Region-based Adisadel College who has emerged winner of the 21st edition of NSMQ. The finale was held at the R.S. Amegashie auditorium of the University of Ghana Business School, Legon, on Wednesday.
After a back-breaking final, Adisco scored 44 points against Opoku Ware and Mfantsipim Senior High Schools, lifting the coveted trophy for the first time having lost in the final last year. Opoku Ware SHS was the first runner-up with 38 points, while Mfantsipim came third with 37 points.
It can be recalled that Adisadel beat Kumasi Secondary Technical School and Accra Academy to qualify for the grand finale. Opoku Ware School had beat Kumasi High School and St. Hubert Min. Seminary Senior High School in the semi-finals, while Mfantsipim also knocked out Prempeh college, and Wesley Girls to qualify for the semi-finals.
Victorious Adisco walked away with GHc 40,000 as a grand prize for the school, GHc 15,000 for the team of students and GHc 15,000 for the teachers who coached the team. The school was represented by Messrs Annin Riddley Osei Assibey and Issac Amofo Mensah.
The much talked about competition saw 135 senior high schools compete for this year’s edition. The objective of the National Science & Maths Quiz is to promote the study of science and mathematics, in schools.
The 2016 edition of the NSMQ gained a lot of interest on social media with the schools’ alumni showing a lot of support for their schools. Indeed the competition is that which brings all of Ghana’s secondary schools together.
