Born on the 29th of March 1944, Akufo-Addo’s 73rd Birthday is the first he is celebrating as President of the Republic of Ghana.

President Nana Akufo-Addo has turned 73 today, Wednesday, March 29, 2017. Countless goodwill messages have been pouring in from different angles – family, friends, groups, and institutions in Ghana and beyond.

Akufo-Addo’s 73rd birthday comes just about two weeks after his wife, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo celebrated her 66th birthday. To mark this special day, Rebecca took to Instagram to share her special birthday message to her husband.

Posting a photo of two of them, she wrote: “Happy birthday my dear Monsieur. I will always be inspired by your strength and resilience”. See Instagram post below.

Ghana’s special wish for Nana Addo on his 73rd birthday is that the President realizes his vision of “A Ghana beyond aid”.

NPP Celebrates Nana

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has also sent in heartwarming wishes to mark Akufo-Addo’s 73rd birthday. In a message signed by John Boadu, the party’s Acting General Secretary, the NPP wished the President a happy birthday and many prosperous years ahead.

The party indicated their pride in being part of Nana Addo’s life, poured out praises on him, pointing out his numerous contributions and achievements in the service of his fatherland. They also prayed that he achieves all his set goals as president. Part of the birthday wishes read:

Mr. President, the New Patriotic Party is proud of you. We believe that during your tenure, we will see a transformed Ghana, we will see a Ghana beyond aid, we will see a Ghana that has one factory at every district, a Ghana that has Senior High School Children having free education, a Ghana that has its people believing in her future, and many good policies and programmes…

Birthday Wishes From the Vice President

In a Facebook post, Vice President Mahamamudu Bawumia also celebrated Nana Addo, calling him “My Boss”. Posting a photo of two of them together, the Veep wrote:

Happy birthday to my boss, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. May the Almighty Allah continue to bless you, grant you good health and long life. May He also grant you immense wisdom to achieve your progressive vision for Ghana.

Message From Girls Girls

The leadership and members of Girls Girls for Nana Akufo-Addo also sent in beautiful wishes on his 73rd birthday. In a statement signed by their Coordinator, Ms. Vera Wiredu, the group wished Nana Addo “greater anointing, grace, mercies, and favor of God”.

Describing the President as “God’s special gift to Ghana at this point in time”, Girls Girls for Nana stated that “today marks the beginning of another level of a breakthrough for Ghana”. Part of the birthday message read:

They also prayed that God gives him divine guidance, the wisdom, and good health that will enable him to achieve his dreams for the country, asserting that the president will surely lead Ghana again after the current dispensation.

Premier League side, Medeama SC is not left out in the beehive of birthday wishes on President Nana Akufo-Addo’s 73rd Birthday. On their official Twitter handle, the club wished Ghana’s President Happy Birthday and God’s blessings.

About Nana Addo

Nana Addo whose real name is William Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is the incumbent and fifth president of the Fourth Republic of Ghana. He assumed the sit after defeating Former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the presidential elections held on 7th December 2016.

Nana Addo under the umbrella of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), vied for the post of Ghana’s president in 2008, 2012 and eventually won in his third attempt in 2016.

Nana who hails from Kyebi and Akropong-Akuapem in the Eastern Region was born in Accra to Edward and Adeline Akuffo-Addo. He studied Economics at the University of Ghana, Legon and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1967. He went on and studied law in the UK and was called to the English Bar (Middle Temple) in July 1971.

Mr. Akufo-Addo has been a prominent figure in the NPP and in Ghana politics at large, having served in several political positions. Below are some of the major positions in which Nana Addo has served.

  • Member of Parliament for Abuakwa (1997–2004)
  • Attorney General of Ghana (2001 – 2003)
  • Minister of Foreign Affairs (2003 – 2007)
  • Member of Parliament for Akim Abuakwa South (2005–2009)
