Court Issues Bench Warrant for Minister’s Arrest


The High court situated in Ho has issued a bench warrant ordering for the arrest of the Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing, Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah for his failure to appear before the court on five different occasions.

Dr Agyemang-Mensah was summoned in court to answer a contempt motion filed against him in relation with properties destroyed during the execution of the Ada Sea Defence Project.

Minister’s Failure to appear

The presiding judge Mr Justice Patrick Baayeh hinted that the minister had failed to appear before the court to answer to the charge of contempt leveled against him, hence the presiding judge has instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest him and ensure he appears in court on April 15, 2016.

The minister is to appear in court alongside the director of the ministry, Alhaji Ziblim Yakubu and director of hydrological services, Mr Owusu Ansah.

Meanwhile, the plaintiffs in the case are Zikpuitor Fenu Benjamin Atsu and Marshall Koblah Fenu. The two contend that the defendants, being the supervisors of the project being undertaken by Dredging  International  Company from Netherlands, had failed to take action to safeguard their land, property and amenities as well as causing environmental destruction and degradation.
