Customs Officers Impound a Lorry Load of 1 million Bullets at Ghana Borders

A lorry loaded with about a million cartridges has been confiscated by some custom officers on Sunday afternoon at the Kpoglo customs barrier in Aflao in the Volta Region.

It was reported that  two officers stopped the vehicle at the border and upon interrogation pressed for further checks on the vehicle.

The bullets were safely concealed in a false compartment in a Nigerian registered vehicle with plate number, KTU 444 XD, allegedly coming from Togo to an unknown destination.

However, the three occupants of the vehicle who were perceived to be Nigerians are currently at large as they all fled.

Reports has it that on discovering the secret compartment during inspection, one of the officers went to fetch a welder who will help to break it open to find out exactly what is contained therein. That was when the driver and two other accomplices found their way of escape.

According to Joy News’ Volta Region Correspondent, Fred Kwame-Asare, it was only two customs officers that were on duty that Sunday afternoon, thereby making their escape possible.

The officials suspected them after they discovered the false compartment on the floor of the cargo truck.

One officer rushed to town to call a welder to help in the break in and that was when the three suspects managed to escape,” he added.

Some parcels of what is suspected to be marijuana and some cosmetics were also discovered in the lorry.

Meanwhile, investigations are still on on the matter and available results would be related to you subsequently.
