Don Arthur who is the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Effutu, assisted about 75 women in the Effutu Area to access loan of GHc26,130 from the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre. The women who benefited from this were petty traders, fish mongers, and others.
He revealed that his reason for doing so was to help and empower women take control of their economic lives. At the event, the women were urged to cultivate the habit of saving and work had to pay the loans. Each of the women received GHC 500 as their respective loans.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MASLOC, Mrs. Sedinam Tamakloe in her address also encouraged the women to work harder and make efforts to prove that the loans they had received where worth the while.
Eric who also expressed his concerns for the lives of the people in his constituency also encouraged the women to work had and improve themselves as well as their trade.
The beneficiaries of the loan also expressed their gratitude towards Eric , as well as MASLOC for what they organised for them.
Eric Don Arthur, a journalist, in November 2015, won the NDC primary to contest for the 2016 Parliamentary primaries for the Effutu constituency. He had polled 1,694 votes against his fellow contender, Ambrose Entsiwah who polled 1,261 votes, making him the winner of the NDC primary.
He had made his intentions to contest for member of Parliament public in July 2015. According to him, there was the need for change in leadership to propel the development of the Effutu area. He said he had come with new hope and passion to build upon the solid foundation laid by his predecessors.
