The just concluded Ghana Meets Naija 2016 concert tagged “The Battle of the Tribes” was really a remarkable one as Nigerian triumphed over Ghana for the first time in five good years!
The much anticipated Ghana Meets Naija 2016 has come and gone. Held 21st May, 2016, the concert saw top three Nigerian music genius face Ghana’s finest three in a 3-round musical battle.
Ghana’s Dancehall King, Shatta Wale; VGMA Artiste of the Year Award winner, EL, and Pappy Kojo were left to battle Nigeria’s Olamide, Harrysong, and Flavour on the stage of the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday.
Notwithstanding the four-hour rain that bombarded the city of Accra on Saturday, innumerable Nigerians and Ghanaians thronged the Accra International Conference center to witness the concert which usually holds promises of electrifying music performances from the two country’s finest.
The curtains were raised by Rapper Guru who was secretly billed to make a surprise performance before Mr. Eazi and VVIP came to light the show.
The first round saw Pappy Kojo who began his reassuring performance with a freestyle leaving all doubters’ mouths opened. While performing, fellow rapper Edem joined him to perform their track titled “2Raw” together before concluding his impressive performance on the night with “Awo’a”. See video below:
Trailing Pappy Kojo’s performance was Nigeria’s Harrysong, who also took in-charge of the stage with some fireworks. With both his known and unknown tracks, the “Reggae Blues” hit maker, got the audience standing on their feet, held spellbound with a vibrant performance.
Then came EL, who took over the stage while the crowd chants his name. He invited his label mate, Shaker, to do a quick performance before fully taking over the stage. Unfortunately, there were some technical challenges which made his performance to be below the crowd’s expectations such a section of the crowed booed him out of the stage. See video:
Following EL was one of Nigeria’s finest rappers, Olamide Baddo. He started his astounding performance with his most known old masterpieces before ceiling with his latest hit, “Bobo”. Rocking the stage in an all-blue African prints, Olamide kept everyone in the auditorium entertained throughout his performance. Watch video below:
Shatta Wale Saves Ghana
Before the dancehall king took to the stage, it seemed as if all was going wrong fro Ghana in terms of performance, as Pappy Kojo and EL were virtually whipped on stage by their Nigerian counterparts – Harry Song and Olamide. LoL.
Being our last card for the night Shatta Wale, stormed the stage in the most vibrant way to prove to all the reason why he calls himself the King of Dancehall in Ghana. He started his performance by taking Ghanaians back to his Bandana days by performing “Bandana from Ghana”. Appearing in an all-white attire – a glass kiosk and white suit, he performed hits after hits before ending with his “Baby” (Chop Kiss).
In the middle of his performance, Shatta paused to pass on a peace message to fans cautioning them against violence before, during and after the elections. Watch videao:
The most remarkable thing about Wale’s performance is the colour and flavour he added to the whole show by inviting his wife on stage who appeared in an extremely seductive costume to do the last round, ‘Baby Chop Kiss’ with her husband. In all, he put up a flawless and spectacular performance s kept the entire auditorium charged up with die hard fans singing along every song he drops.
Multiple award-winning Highlife star, Flavour , then closed the show with an evoking live band performance. From “Ada” to “Finally”, Flavour wowed everyone who was at the auditorium. See video:
Each year, the Tigo Ghana Meets Naija exceeds all expectations and becomes the biggest and most exciting concert in Ghana. Organisers had earlier said the Ghana Meets Naija 2016 edition comes with more exciting packages hence the title “Battle Of The Tribes”.
Ghanaian-based Nigerian musician, Mr. Eazi well known for hit song, “Skin Tight” together with the trio VVIP also rocked the stage on the night.
Comparing the crowd’s reactions, Flavour, Shatta Wale and Olamide were the best on the night so from all indications, Nigeria defeated Ghana at the Tigo Ghana Meets Naija 2016 concert.
