Asamoah Gyan wins his first trophy at new club Al Ahli after the UAE side defeated Al Jazira for the Arabian Gulf Super Cup in Egypt

Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan who impressed on his debut, scoring despite coming on as a second half substitute, has finally made his full debut. Gyan wins his first trophy at Al Ahli after the club defeated Al Jazira 2-1 in the Arabian Gulf Super Cup on Tuesday.

Al Ahli wins

Champions of the league Al Ahli and President’s Cup winners Al Jazira faced off in Egypt, at 30 June Air Defence stadium, on Tuesday. The Ghanaian striker who was part of the history making team; made a substitute appearance in the 86th minute, replacing Al Hamadi Isameel, at the time his club was already cruising 2-0 after an own goal by Fawzi Mohammed and Al Ahli’s striker Lima.

But Aljazira got a late consolation goal in the 90th minute through Thiago Neves. Al Ahli have now won the UAE Super Cup on four occasions after clinching it in 2009, 2013 and 2014.

Gyan who was expected to join his former UAE club Al Ain, after word of his failed Reading deal broke out, ended up joining Ain’s major rivals Ahli, on transfer deadline day.

Leaving French side Rennes in 2010, The number 3 joined English side Sunderland, where he made a name for himself. The Black Stars captain scored a total of 10 premiere league goals for the Black Cats during his two year spell, before moving to Al Ain in 2012. Gyan was a major hit at Ain, where he scored a staggering 73 goals in 65 games -with 44 goals coming in one season. He joined Chinese side Shanghai SIPG in 2015, where he became the highest paid footballer at the time.
