Jacob Obetsebi-Lamptey Laid to Rest; Mahama, Rawlings, Nana Addo Pay Last Respect[Photos]


The Late former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jacob Obetsebi-Lamptey was finally laid to rest today, the 22 of April as scheduled. The final funeral rites for the late Ghanaian statesman was held at the forecourt of the State House where he was also laid in state.

Numerous distinguished politicians including members and executives of the NPP converged at the venue to pay their last respect to the former NPP chairman who died in London on Sunday, March 20.

Among the dignitaries who graced the occasion were President John Dramani Mahama, flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo, with his running mate, Dr Mahammadu Bawumia, and former president of Ghana, JJ Rawlings.

The late Jake, as he was fondly called served as the first Chief of Staff , Minister of Information and Presidential Affairs, as well as Minister of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital City under the erst-while Kufuor administration. Late Jacob Obetsebi-Lamptey was the National Campaign Manager of the NPP during the 2000 Presidential elections, which saw the first constitutional (civilian-to-civilian) transition of power.He also held the post of the National Chairman of the NPP as at February 2010.

According to the wishes of the deceased, everyone except his wife appeared in an all-white attire. See some of the photos captured from the solemn ceremony:
