Chief of Staff Julius Debrah’s Kalyppo comments have angered the NPP who described it as a discouragement to Ghanaians from patronising local products.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has responded to the comments made by the Chief of Staff Julius Debrah over her Flagbearer Nana Addo’s sipping of local drink Kalyppo. The party has frowned at his discouragement of Ghanaians from patronising the made-in-Ghana fruit juice.

Julius Debrah during an NDC rally at Wenchi, in Brong Ahafo, advised adults to desist from taking Kalyppo fruit juice as well as other sweet fruit juice because, it is not good for their health. The Chief of Staff had explain that the fruit juice is meant for children and not adults, as too much sugar is not healthy for aged people.

His comments came towards the end of the Kalyppo Craze which commenced after a picture of the NPP’s Flagbearer Nana Addo sipping Kalyppo fruit juice went viral. The picture was meant to possibly mock Nana Addo but it conversely kicked off a social media challenge among NPP supporters who sought to defend their candidate.

Julius Debrah’s Kalyppo comments have angered NPP members as well as a section of Ghanaians who deemed them irresponsible and aimed at killing local businesses. Pro-NPP group ‘The Truth Forum’ has released a statement demanding an apology from the Chief of Staff, over the comments he made.

In addition, Nana Addo has rebuked the Chief of Staff for the comments which he described as a discouragement to Ghanaians from patronising locally made products. Speaking at a rally at Kwadaso in Ashanti Region on Thursday, he wondered why the NDC set up the Komenda sugar factory, if they claimed sugar was not good for the body.

He also complained that the Mahama-led administration now campaigns to collapse Ghanaian businesses, despite several years of incompetence which has hugely affected the country’s economy. Nana Addo urged the people to vote massively for the NPP in the coming elections so the party can implement the policies and programmes which will return Ghana onto the path of progress and prosperity.

Meanwhile the NDC has bot responded to the tons of criticisms it has gotten over Julius Debrah’s Kalyppo comments.
