Kintampo Accident: Mahama Visits Victims; Promises Gh¢100,000 Support


President John Darmani Mahama visited survivors of the deadly Kintampo accident at the Brong Ahafo regional capital of Sunyani on Sunday afternoon.

It has been reported that the fatal crash claimed 63 lives and seriously injured 23 others. Majority of the survivors were said to be on admission at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital and the Komfo Anokye Hospital. Among the injured, six are reported to be in critical condition and have been brought to Accra for further treatment.

The president went there in the company of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia and the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah. He donated several items of relief to the patients which included among others, cartons of Milo and milk. Other patients who were on admission at the hospital also benefited from the donations.


The president also promised to make a donation of GHc 100,000 in support of the treatments and care of the accident victims.

According to Myjoyonline reports, the president’s visit came after a delegation led by the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr. Eric Opoku, was sent from the Flagstaff house to have firsthand information about the disaster.

John Mahama arrived in an Airforce helicopter on Sunday afternoon to the teeming following of residents in the community.

So many things have been blamed for the last Wednesday’s Kintampo crash and the massive loss of lives which ensued. As for the direct cause of the accident, over speeding and brake problems were reported by survivors, while lack of and faulty ambulances have been blamed for the numerous loss of lives.

However, some citizens have also resorted to blaming poor leadership and other factors for the general cause of innumerable road crashes which have been prevalent in the country in recent times.
