Late JB Danquah‘s Funeral rites is set to hold today, April 15. JB Danquah’s funeral would be held today in Accra at the state house. According to reports, he is to be laid to rest tomorrow April 16. His body will be taken to Akyem Old Tafo in the Eastern region for final burial rites tomorrow. Also a memorial service in his honour would be held at Akyem Tafo on April 17.
Late JB Danquah was stabbed to death at his residence in Shiashie in Accra, by a 19-year old boy Daniel Asiedu who broke into his house in the early hours of the morning before dawn. Daniel Asiedu, the suspect had said he went in the MP’s house to steal but ended up killing him in self-defence. Danquah reportedly seized him which resulted to the boy stabbing him repeatedly, causing him to bleed to death before help came. However, Daniel has been charged with murder.
According to the charge sheet, the suspect, Daniel Asiedu, 19, said “he went there to steal but in the process, the deceased woke up and held him”. The suspect said in a struggle with the deceased, he pulled out his knife and stabbed him several times before he became weak and fell down.
Until his demise, JB Danquah was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North constituency. He was the MP for Abuakwa North from 2000, when he lost the seat to the NPP’s Prof. Samuel Amoako in 2008. He however won the seat again in 2012. He once served as a Deputy Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs.
Left to mourn him are his wife and two children.
The funeral is expected to be attended by several dignitaries. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and all other political parties in the country are expected to attend the event.
