Mahama hits Accra today with his ‘Accounting to the People’ Tour…
President John Dramani Mahama is expected to land in Accra today being Tuesday, the 14th of June to begin his Accounting to the People tour of the Greater Accra region.
This will be the sixth phase of the President’s journey, following similar visits to the Central, Eastern, Western, Volta and Brong Ahafo regions in the ‘Accounting to the People’ tour series.
According to the schedule of today’s tour, the President is expected to present some buses to some educational institutions in Accra, after which he will interact with the Chiefs and People of the region. The President also intends using the opportunity to inspect and commission some of the projects executed by his administration so far in the region.
Meanwhile, President Mahama has also announced government’s intentions to build a railway line from Tema in the Greater Accra region to Akosombo in the Eastern region. This he said, will be strategic in the movement of people and goods to the Northern part of the country through the Volta river with Akosombo as the point of entry.
The president is vying for support from the Indian government to enable him achieve this feat. He disclosed this intention after a meeting with the visiting Indian President Pranab Mukherjee.
Before Mahama Hits Accra – Briefly on the President’s Previous Tours
In the Volta region
At Volta, Mahama commissioned a completed segment of the Eastern Corridor roads. The completed road construction is a 47.4km road starting from Dodi Pepeso to Nkwata. He also met with the Volta chiefs to whom he lauded his achievements so far, pointing out that the opposition New Patriotic Party wasted a year of his tenure with litigation disturbances.
Mahama in Brong Ahafo region
The president was at the region few days before the worker’s day celebration. During his tour of the Brong Ahafo region, the President strongly assured workers of better years ahead, specifically, the coming year, 2017.
Mahama in Western Region
While in the Western Region, President Mahama commissioned a number of projects and also gave a go-ahead-order for the commencement of new ones. He used the the opportunity to perform a ceremony to convert the Takoradi Polytechnic into a technical university. He also spent some time with the fisherfolk of the region who tabled their various grievances to him. It was at the occasion that ‘Dumsor’ paid Mahama an unexpected and embarrassing visit.
Eastern Region Tour
In the Eastern Region, President Mahama paid courtesy calls on chiefs, interacted with traders and residents of various communities and inspected on-going projects.
At the Central Region
The President’s major achievements in the Central Region, include the controversial Komenda sugar factory, Kotokraba market, and the just concluded 16,000-capacity Cape Coast Sports Stadium. It was also at the region that Mahama was endorsed to become a bona fide indigene of Fanteman in the Central Region.
As Mahama hits Accra today, we are having high hopes that he will address the numerous challenges that are bedeviling the country’s capital, including the issue of deadly flooding.
