A 17-year-old girl who is a student of the Hwereso Junior High School near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region was Tuesday butchered after having been raped by a 25-year-old man.
Her assailant, whose name was given as Adongo Akanyire Azure, after killing the young lady also inflicted machete wounds on her mother. He later went on to commit suicide at the Boankra Inland Port by allegedly drinking a poisonous substance.
Narrating the gruesome incident to the Daily Graphic, the Ejisu Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Laear Baman, said around 12 midnight on Tuesday, the police got and emergency call reporting the murder of a teenage girl by a young man after raping her.
He said the police went to the scene and saw the victim with a machete wound in the chest lying in a pool of blood.
According to the victim’s mother, the tragic incident took place while they, (the deceased, her mother and another lady) were in their room that fateful Tuesday night. Azure broke into their room armed with a machete, a knife and a hammer. He told them that he knew he was going to die and that before he died, he would have to kill somebody.
When asked by the woman the people that are after his life, Azure diverted to telling them to allow him sleep with the young lady or risk losing their lives. As they were reluctant to grant his request, he threatened to butcher them with the weapons he had on hand. Out of fear, the girl succumbed to his devilish request.
Immediately after having sex with the girl, Azure used the machete to cut between the breasts of the young lady. After this, he asked her mother and another lady in the room to turn and face the window. He then started inflicting knife wounds on the mother of the deceased. The woman pushed the door open and started shouting for help, while Azure pursued her. When he realised that a number of people were rushing to the scene, he abandoned his mission and fled.
Mr Baman said the police rushed the injured mother to hospital and mounted investigations to nab the culprit. In the course of the manhunt, they discovered the bloodstained machete in Azure’s room.
Meanwhile, on their way to deposit the body of the young lady at the morgue, the police were informed that a body of a young man had been found at the Boankra Inland Port.
The police commander said they confirmed the corpse to be that of Azure. According to him, some whitish foam were gushing from the mouth and nose, indicating that he might have taken a poisonous substance.
He said the two bodies had been deposited at the Juaben Government Hospital for autopsy, while the girl’s mother is receiving treatment.
With the high rate of violence in the country, everyone is warned to be security conscious. Also try as much as possible to keep away from situations that will expose you to blood thirst assailants.
