A devout Muslim shopkeeper was savagely killed in the street shortly after posting an Easter message “to my beloved Christian nation”.
A few hours before he was killed, Respected Muslim and shopkeeper Asad Shah wrote on Facebook:
“Good Friday and a very Happy Easter, especially to my beloved Christian nation… Let’s follow the real footstep of beloved holy Jesus Christ (PBUH) [peace be upon him], and get the real success in both worlds xxxx.”
Asad Shah, 40, was attacked on Minard road close to his shop on Thursday night. His killers are believed to have stabbed him and stamped on his head. Although doctors worked hard to save his life, Asad could not survive the injuries he sustained in the attack and thereby died Thursday night at the hospital where he was admitted for treatments.
According to an eyewitness, two men had set upon the shopkeeper. He said:
“One was stamping on his head. There was a pool of blood on the ground. ”
Police Scotland, who have arrested a man in connection with the attack, said they were treating the death as “religiously prejudiced”. They also said they are following a positive line of inquiry in the investigation of the murder and anyone with useful information should not hesitate to contact them.
Forensic officers placed a tent in front of his shop and another one some metres down the road. A lot of floral tributes and condolence messages have also been placed by sympathizers at the spot outside Mr Shah’s shop, a newsagent and convenience store, close to where he was attacked in Shawlands, Glasgow.
