According to the general belief, waist training is the gradual process of reducing the size of the waist using a corset. Some wear it to exercise, others to control their diet and some others, just to reduce the size of their waist by a few inches. Some decades ago, waist trainers were mainly used by celebrities and models. But in recent years, the quest for tinier waists have escalated and waist trainers are beginning to be an obsession for a lot of ladies, both young and old. Everybody desires that perfect-looking hourglass shape, including those who do nothing at all to deserve it. Since human beings so much prefer the fast lane, or short cuts to due process, majority of women resort to corsets to tuck in excess fat, instead of cultivating healthy habits that’ll help to keep them off.
Moreover, with the present reign of The Kardashians who go about flaunting their shapely figures on the social media, giving the credit to waist trainers, millions of women now look up to the corsets to achieve that long desired shapely body. All the same, to be forewarned, is to be forearmed. In case you’re giving corsets/waist trainers a consideration, ponder over these truths which the advertisers will never tell you before setting out to get them.
I. Damage to Internal Organs
The fact remains that when a corset squeezes the outside of your body, it automatically squeezes some delicate internal organs, displacing them from their normal positions. Moreover, the waist trainer exerts extreme pressure on these organs which has dangerous effects on the entire well-being of the body. For instance, when the stomach and colon can’t expand, it could increase the risk of indigestion, chronic constipation and heartburn. When the lungs cannot expand properly during breathing, it could increase the risk of pneumonia.
2. It Causes Extreme Discomfort and Affects Breathing – you could pass out #nojoke#
One of the major organs that suffer in the hands of corsets are the lung. It does not allow them to expand properly in the course of breathing and when the lungs can’t properly expand, it increases the risk of pneumonia. It also makes it more difficult for your body to get as much oxygen as it needs. Since virtually all corsets compress the lungs in different degrees, it’s not uncommon to experience shortness of breath and probably faint while wearing a very tight waist trainer. Shallow breathing also increases stress.
It was alleged that back in the 18th century, fainting couches were made available in theatres or modelling halls so that women would collapse onto these couches whenever they find the tightness of their corsets unbearable. This is however unfounded.
3. Weakens Core Muscles
Waist cinchers provide a sort of support to the muscles of the stomach and a prolonged use of this external support could weaken the core muscles in the stomach area which are necessary for tightening your abs.
Worse still, if you’re using it to work out, you’re going to reduce the amount of strength you have in your stomach and reduce muscle tone in your stomach. If you are working out with it you’re likely going to be working at a lower intensity, so you’re not even going to get the results you want from your workouts. You can’t work out as hard, you can’t move as easily and as earlier mentioned, it’s harder to breath, thereby burning lesser amount of calories.
4. Could Cause Skin Irritations and other Diseases
Of course, no seller or advertiser would come around his goods from the native angle, so you’ll never expect the Kardashians, Hourglass Angel, or the Waist Gang Society to tell you how awful one feels inside the so much eulogised waist trainers. Since the waist trainers give too much pressure on the nerves, it could result to some kind of tingling around the abdomen. The skin around the area usually covered with the tight cinchers hardly get air and could therefore become inflamed, resulting to rashes, yeast infection and other skin diseases.
5. Does not Produce a Permanent Effect
If you are objective enough, you should be able to understand that all a waist trainer could do for you is compress the flesh/fat and squeeze it in, but as soon as you take it off it all comes right back! Apart from the ability of the corset to make you eat less (by squeezing your tummy and making you uncomfortable), there is no way it burns fat or shapes the waist permanently. And mind you, if you do not consciously control your diet, there is still the tendency of eating more by the time you remove the trainer and realise how hungry you’ve been all through the day. To lose those unwanted pounds of flesh, you must work for it. It is also worthy to point out that the body shape or figure is a natural phenomenon and some people will never get that hourglass shape no matter how hard they try. Lol.
6. It Makes Hugging Horrible – You Completely Lose the Soft Touch
Ladies are meant to be soft when you come in contact with them but you can’t have that anymore with the advent of waist trainers. The popular Ghanaian Nollywood actor, John Dumelo once criticised ladies on the social media about this. This is what he said:
I remember when you hugged a girl and she felt all soft…. Now they are wearing waist trainers. It feels like you are hugging a police” with caption,”at least take it off when you are going out Eh”.
7. Makes Clothe Selection a Difficult Task – You’ll Probably Need a New Wardrobe
Getting ready for work becomes a nightmare when you start using waist trainers newly, that is if you’ve chosen to wear it all day. You’ll quickly discover that every item in your closet fits into one of two categories: the clothes that either make the waist trainer glaringly, laughably obvious or the ones that render its effects totally invisible! Funny, so you’ve got to give it a good thought – I’ve told you beforehand.
