The Peki Chief threw his weight behind Nana Addo’s bid for presidency during the NPP Flagbearer’s tour of the Volta Region, which started on Monday.

Despite warnings by the National House of Chiefs, many traditional rulers have continued to publicly endorse candidates of different political parties. The National House of Chiefs had warned chiefs to desist from publicly declaring support for any political aspirant ahead of the elections. The president of the association, Professor Nabila, had cited a section of the constitution which frowned at their participation in party politics. But it seems the stakeholders have decided not to heed the warning.

The Gyasehene justified his endorsement of Nana Addo, saying that Chiefs also feel the pains of the people and since Ghana is in a political era, any chief has the right to choose which party to support.

Prior to this, over 58 chiefs endorsed Nana Addo during the first day of his second tour of the Ashanti Region. The chiefs through their spokesperson, Nana Yaw Owusu, the Mpaboahere of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, expressed their dissatisfaction with the incumbent government. The Ashanti chiefs said that government has long neglected the Ashantis simply because they are known supporters of the opposition NPP.

Having garnered tons of endorsements from chiefs and other prominent personalities across the country, Nana Addo can be said to be fully overjoyed and more confident as everyone anxiously waits for the D-day.
