The Unemployed nurses protests is getting hotter and it was really a sight to behold as they lamented over their unfortunate situation on Wednesday morning in Accra.
The unemployed nurses protests are basically against the delay by the Health Ministry in posting them. The nurses who seem to have had enough of the failed promises by the ministry on their postings, financial clearance and more, decided to make a drastic move by staging the protest.
The Ministry of Health had in a statement last week said that the nurses had been given clearance. But it seems they are yet to see the manifestations of the supposed clearance.
The nurses in their uniforms and red bands lamented over their plight, with so many placards relaying quite significant messages. One of the placards wielded by some of the nurses reads; ‘A hungry Nurse Is a potential killer’.
According to reports, some of these nurses have been waiting at home for the past 10 months for their postings. They had petitioned the office of the president for their financial clearance from the Finance Ministry. Their petition was received by the Health Ministry on behalf of the President.
The nurses have been asked to visit the various teaching hospitals and regional offices of the service and procure their forms, which they have done. The nurses say they will not relent in their demonstrations until their voices are heard.
They wielded several other placards with the following messages; ‘We are tired of staying at home’, ‘Evidence-based unemployed nurses and mid-wives demonstration’, ‘We need our financial clearance now’, among others.
The angered nurses had converged at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, for a morning devotion. They had said prayers before the demonstration, asking God to touch the hearts of authorities to post them as soon as possible.
