13-year-old KNUST student, Ruth Ama Gyan-Darkwa, has really brought fame to her family by becoming  the youngest ever student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). 

A recent report by Starrfmonline reveals that the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, has offered to sponsor Ruth Gyan-Darkwa’s education at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The Second Lady’s intention was made known by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) who spoke on behalf of the Second Lady.

Mr. Boasiako said her gesture is aimed at encouraging other students to work hard as she will do same for any student who excelled in that regard. According to him, “the second lady of Ghana was touched by the performance of Ruth and so she has offered to sponsor her education at KNUST and not only that, she will also cater for the medical expenses of Ruth’s parent and other expenses. She has also promised to do same for any child who will equally excel in this regard to further his or her education”.

Chairman Wontumi also went ahead to pledge his own support for Ruth’s 15-year-old immediate elder sister, Josephine Gyan-Darkwa who also excelled in the exams and wants to pursue a career in Medicine and Surgery in Germany.

According to the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, he was touched when he saw the results of Josephine who equally did well. He therefore promised to sponsor her education to enable hert live her dreams of becoming a medical doctor, and in turn return and help Mother Ghana.

Ruth and her sister, together with their parents expressed their gratitude to the Second Lady and Chairman Wontumi for their support and promised to make them proud by taking their studies serious.

Ruth, since after gaining an admission this 2017/2018 academic year to study Mathematics at KNUST, has almost turned to a celebrity, as everyone wants to catch a glimpse of, as well as hold a chat with the genius of a girl who has defied all odds to become an undergraduate at the tender age of 13.

Meanwhile, Ruth has through her exceptional feat, brought her family to the limelight, with the public ever wanting to know more about her home and upbringing. It is in this quest that it came to notice that the 13-year-old KNUST student is the third of 8 other very brilliant children.

Ruth is actually not the only exceptionally brilliant child in her home! Her eldest sister, Grace is set to graduate from KNUST next year with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science at the age of 18.

Her immediate elder sister who is 15, is hoping to study Medicine and Surgery abroad, having been denied of an admission this year to do so in Ghana. Their father, also indicated that the sixth child, a boy is so brilliant that he is holding a prospect of leaving high school at 11.
