Nifa SHS Conquers Achimota School and Holy Child School in NSMQ


Nifa Senior High Schools eliminated Achimota School and Holy Child School from the 2016 NSMQ…

Nifa Senior High School beat Achimota High School and Holy Child School in the one-eight stage of the 2016 National Science and Mathematics Quiz competition, qualifying for the quarter finals whilst eliminating the two defeated schools from the competition.

At the end of the first round of the contest, Nifa SHS, represented by Venissa Adzo Sedem Manya and Philip Amor Narh, emerged last with 15 points. Achimota School was leading with a score of 22 points and Holy Child was in second place with 20 points.

After the second round, Nifa SHS glided past Holy Child School and took the second place with a score of 28 points. Achimota School was still in the first position with 31 points, while Holy Child School placed third with 22 points.

Nifa SHS got the highest point of six in the Problem of the Day, Round 3, which saw them in the first position with 34 points leaving Achimota School and Holy Child School in the second and third places respectively.

In the True or False round, Round 4, Nifa SHS got all their statements correct, widening the margin of scores by seven points.

The last round started with Achimota School picking the first two riddles and closing the gap but still behind Nifa SHS with a one point difference. Nifa SHS picked the third riddle, slightly widening the gap with four points.



Achimota School had the chance of picking the last riddle on the second clue for four points but missed it to Holy Child School.

At the end of the contest, Nifa SHS took the lead with 53 points. Achimota School placed second with 49 points, while Holy Child School came third with 45 points.

HolyChild

The quarter finals of the NSMQ will start on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the R.S. Amegashie Auditorium, University of Ghana Business School, Legon. Subsequently, the semi-finals will start on June 27, while the finals will hold on Wednesday, June 29, 2016.

It would be recalled that Prempeh College from the Ashanti Region won the 2015 edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

This year’s edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz (2016 NSMQ) is produced by Primetime and sponsored mainly by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), with RMG Ghana Ltd as a platinum sponsor.

The National Science and Maths Quiz is an annual science and mathematics based national level quiz competition for senior high schools. It has been produced by Primetime Limited, an advertising and PR Agency, with a huge interest in education, since 1993. It is aimed at promoting Science and Mathematics in our schools and also help students develop critical reasoning and discovery mindset. The quiz initially involved only 32 schools but has expanded to involve 135 schools from all parts of Ghana.
