This move by the NDC was made public in a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia. According to the statement, the concerned NDC members in their decision to go independent, violated the articles 8( d,f); 45( a,b,c &e) and 46(10) of the party’s constitution.

It was made clear in the statement that the erring members has voluntarily ceased to be members of the NDC. The party therefore warned the affected persons to henceforth, stop using anything that identifies them with the party. It also ordered that they return any party property that is still in their possession.

Since the dawn of the year 2016, numerous NDC members have denounced their membership of the party as a result of one grievance or the other. While some of them defected to other parties, especially the major opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), others have decided to run their political race independently.
