5 African reps at World Cup – Africa is ready to partake in the 2018 World Cup in Russia as the continent has confirmed five participants for the tournament.
Nigeria, Egypt, Senegal, Morocco and Tunisia sealed top spots in their respective qualifying groups to confirm their places in the tournament to be played in Russia.
Africa rounded up the group stage over the weekend after matches were played across the continent to seal the remaining three slots.
Egypt and Nigeria were the first to qualify last month after opening unassailable leads in their groups with one match left to be played in their respective groups.
Senegal who has been on a 16-year world cup drought Joined the group on Friday after defeating South Africa 2-0 in Polokwane. Morocco and Tunisia followed.
Tunisia’s Eagles of Carthage easily overcame Mauritania with a 4-2 aggregate win in the second qualifying round before they made maximum points from their opening three matches of the group stage.
In all Tunisia collected 14 points in Group A, after scoring 15 goals and conceding 6 in the group.
For Morocco, the country collected 12 points after scoring 11 goals and conceding 1 at the Group C stage. Morocco beat Cote d’Ivoire 2-0 away in their final group game while Tunisia’s 0-0 home draw against Libya was enough to seal their qualification.
The Atlas Lions are going back to the tournament for the first time since 1998, having not conceded a goal during the six-match group campaign.
