Amenfi East District Teachers To Shun Independence Day Parade Over ‘Blockhead’ Comment

Amenfi East District Teachers have decided to pull out of the parade on Independence Day, following the alleged insults they have received from the District Director of Education for Amenfi East, Alexis Matipah, on a radio station. According to them, the director called them incompetent and ‘block-headed’.

The Amenfi East District teachers of the Western Region had demanded an apology from the director which they never got. However they unanimously decided to pull out of the Independence Day celebration.

Isaac Owusu Konadu, who is the spokesperson for the teachers said the teachers are no longer willing to work with the director any more.

This man doesn’t regard teachers; he will insult and humiliate you.  When he was called on Adom FM in Accra, he was asked why he set his own questions instead of asking the teachers to do that. He told the station that all the teachers in the district are block-headed and they are incompetent.” he said.

He continued that Amenfi East District teachers have informed the Deputy Minister of Education, Alex Kyeremeh, that they are for the same reason pulling out of the celebration. He says the teachers maintain their grounds and that they will not at all show up at the Independence day parade which is on March 6.

What will happen is that, on Sunday no teacher will be on the field, we will attend our various churches. We can’t work with the man again; he has disgraced us to the highest level,” he added.

This is the situation so far, as the teachers are yet to release any further statement. Mr Konadu’s statements implies that this is not the first time they have been insulted by their director. It seems these teachers are really demanding a change.
