Fast rising Ghanaian international, Thomas Partey is set to get an increased pay packet from his club, Atletico Madrid, a recent report from Ghanasoccernet revealed. The move, according to the report, is being targeted at securing the Ghanaian midfielder for the club against a possible move to another club owing to his current excellent performances.
Thomas Partey has been in sparkling form this year for Atletico Madrid, earning himself a place in the starting line-up of the Spanish side. Partey has been on the rescue for his club, with four club goals to his credit since the beginning of the new season. His only goal in Atleti’s 1-0 win against Deportivo de La Coruña FC on November 4 counts as one of them.
The Ghanaian player has however, not been previously doing so wonderfully well in his six-year-old stay at Atletico, leading to his being sent on loan now and again. But the 24-year-old midfielder’s form started improving significantly since the last season, with his influence at the Spanish side beginning to be very glaring after the renewal of his contract early this year.
Partey’s statistics also show that he is currently the most instrumental Ghanaian footballer at the moment, having scored four goals for Ghana in his last three appearances for the national team. His recent form has for the first time, earned him a spot on the nominee list of the 2017 African Footballer of the Year award.
His performances at the Spanish side have continued to improve astronomically, creating fears that he may soon draw the attention of bigger clubs such as Chelsea, Southampton and Leicester City. In the bid to shield Partey’s interest from these EPL trio, Atletico has reportedly started working towards offering him improved terms to lure him into staying on at Diego’s side.
