Obinim spent Wednesday night in Police custody, despite demonstrations by his followers around the police station, for his release. The Police who didn’t heed their demands, dispersed the raging followers with water cannons and subsequently transferred the pastor to a new place.

Obinim is also expected to answer to physical and verbal assault charges, for flogging two young lovers in his church. A video which went viral, showed Obinim flogging two teenagers of his church, for alleged fornication and attempted abortion. Obinim whipped the two mercilessly for indulging in an act meant for married couples ready to take up the responsibility of raising a child.

The video had attracted lots of criticisms and complaints against Obinim, leading to the Police involvement on the issue. The second case which is that of fraud, subsequently surfaced as the fraud victim reportedly took his complaint to the police station. According to reports, the man in question gave a sum of 11.6 million cedis from his family gold business to Obinim, for ritual blessings. The man claimed he never got his money back from the pastor.

However Bishop Obinim denied knowledge of the fraud claims, and has also maintained that he was right to flog the two teenagers, as they were his adopted children. Meanwhile, the entire congregation of his church have said they will vote against the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC), for humiliating their founder.
