Captain Mahama To Be Buried on June 9; Family Announces Official Donation

Captain Mahama’s burial will be holding this Friday, being the 9th of June, 2017; family of the slain soldier has announced. He will be buried at the Military Cemetery in Accra. Spokesperson for the family, Zakaria Sakara, made the announcement at a press conference held during a courtesy call by the leadership of Parliament on Saturday, June 3.

Addressing the audience on behalf of the family, Zakaria Sakara requested that a monument be built in honour the late Captain, while expressing hope that the monument would serve as a constant souvenir of the tragedy, as well as a deterrent to the menace of mob justice in Ghana.

“After the burial, the family wants a monument to be built anywhere in Ghana on his behalf so that in the future, we use that to remember and that in our lifetime we don’t want to see anything of this sort again,” he said.

Mr. Sakara also disclosed that following Captain Mahama’s burial, a thanksgiving service will be held in his memory on Sunday, June 11, 2017.

Family Announces Official Donation

Family of the murdered military officer also made known their acceptance of a proposal from some organizations to create a fundraising account to enable sympathetic Ghanaians make donations to the family while commiserating with them on the murder of their son.

Meanwhile, it has been observed that some fraudsters have taken to various social media platforms such as Facebook and GoFundMe, to call for donations on behalf of the Late Captain’s family. Spokesperson for the family however, warned Ghanaians against being fooled by the accursed fraudsters.

Captain Maxwell Adams Mahama, an officer of the 5th Infantry Battalion, was gruesomely murdered by some residents of Diaso, in Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region, after claiming to have mistaken him for an armed robber.

The despicable incident has left the nation in shock, especially as it regards the costly prize being paid for the lawless act of mob justice which has been the unquestioned order of the day across the country. Investigations so far have seen to the arrest of 42 suspects, with 7 already charged to court.
