Coach Avram Grant: What You Must Know About Isreali’s Hinted Move to Bulgarian Side Levski Sofia


Several reports indicate that Former Black Stars Coach Avram Grant is in talks with Bulgarian side Levski Sofia for a club management job at the side. The former Chelsea coach says he is almost certain to join the club immediately after meeting with officials of the club.

Should the deal succeed, it will be Coach Grant’s 12th coaching post. Though still undisclosed, Grant’s salary will reportedly make him the highest paid manager.

According to reports, Coach Avram Grant recently met with the with officials of the club. The 62-year-old who has returned to his base in London says he is positive that a deal will be reached for him to join the side. Grant spoke with ghanasoccernet.com confirming news of his meeting with the club.

I have completed the meeting with officials of Levski Sofia and I can say I am 99% certain that a deal will be reached in the next days

Grant’s Exit From Black Stars

Avram Grant resigned as Ghana’s Black Stars coach in February 2017 after over two years of managing the team.  Grant, who also coached English sides West Ham and Portsmouth, has been unattached since quitting as the coach of Ghana in February. He quit the Black Stars after Ghana lost to Cameroon in the semi finals of the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon.

After a rather daunting but hopeless struggle to revamp Ghana’s football status at the time, the former Chelsea coach threw in the towel, in anticipation of a better chance to prove himself. The disappointing experience was that of Ghana’s 2017 Afcon defeat and the 2018 World Cup qualifier struggle. Grant’s failure to secure a significant accolade for the team led to his resignation.

Grant’s Records

Coach Avram Grant led Ghana to reach the final of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, helping the West African nation to recover from the trauma of the 2014 World Cup fiasco. However, they lost a penalty shoot-out to Ivory Coast in the tournament in Equatorial Guinea with most people satisfied with the output of the Black Stars.

Grant coached the Israeli national team between 2002 and 2006 before moving to England to join giants Chelsea as Director of Football in 2007. He was made the coach of Chelsea FC immediately after now Man United coach, Jose Mourinho left the post for the first time, leading the Blues to the Champions League final.
