Court Issues Bench Warrant For Bukom Banku

In a recent development, a magistrate court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Braimah Kamoko, also known as Bukom Banku, for his failure to appear in court. Bukom Banku has been in the news lately for the wrong reasons.

He is currently in a trial for allegedly assaulting a lady and her friends. The accused Bukom who was earlier granted bail was absent without a reasonable excuse on March 23 when the case was called. This then prompted the presiding judge to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.

The issuance of a bench warrant for Bukom is however, not new in the news. On a previous incident, the dramatic boxer had allegedly used a cutlass to assault a man named Michael Abbey in Akoto Lantey, Accra. After he failed to appear in court to answer for his crimes, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. Up till this moment, the case is still pending as nothing more was done on it.

On the recent case, the prosecutor, Sergeant Lois Konadu, has presented the case before the court. The victims, Nana and Eunice were said to be sitting in front of their house chatting together with some siblings when Bukom Banku appeared at the scene.

An altercation motivated by Banku’s insults had ensued, and subsequently escalated to his assaulting the victims. The ladies had sustained various degrees of injuries and reported the matter to the James Town Police where they were issued with medical forms to go to the hospital for treatment. On March 11, the victims petitioned the Regional Police Commander in Accra to intervene and Bukom Banku was later arrested on March 15, 2016.

Previous reports has it that the Banku was denied sex by the lady who is allegedly his girlfriend, thus leading to the brawl. However, the actual reason for the altercations has not completely been ascertained. We only hope that things would become clearer as court hearings proceed.
