Zanetor’s case against Justice Baafo would be heard today at supreme court. Dr. Zanetor Rawlings is challenging the capacity of a the High Court hearing the case challenging her eligibility to contest as the NDC parliamentary candidate for Klottey Korle Consistency. Zanetor had in March filed a suit at the supreme court seeking a restraining order to stop Judge Kweku Ackaah-Baafo from hearing her case.
The case which has lingered for so long now involves the incumbent MP for the constituency, Nii Ashietey who challenges his defeat in the November 11, 2015 primaries. Nii Ashietey challenges his defeat on the grounds that Dr. Rawlings did not qualify to be elected as the nominee as she was not a registered voter in Ghana, at the time of the primaries. Nii Ashiety had jointly filed the suit with Nii Coleman who later pulled out of the case.
This which according to him is a constitutional breach culminated to his filing a suit at the high court to challenge Zanetor’s eligibility to contest. However, lawyers for Zanetor in another defence said that the case is not for the High court to handle. After several applications to dismiss the case where turned down by the presiding high court judge, Kweku Baafo, Zanetor through her lawyers filed a fresh suit at the supreme court to restrict the judge from hearing her case.
She is seeking an order of certiorari (to review the actions of the court). According to reports, Zanetor’s case is to be heard today at the supreme court.
However Nii Ashietey has accused Dr. Rawlings of running to the Supreme Court to buy time to enable her register in the upcoming limited voters registration exercise. The limited voters registration is set to hold from April 28 to May 8, 2016.
