Ghana’s Black Stars Move Higher to 51st Position in Latest FIFA Ranking


Ghana FIFA Ranking – Ghana’s resilience shown in the 1-1 draw in Egypt 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier had a lot to do with the West African country’s climb in the latest FIFA ranking.

Ghana moved one place up to the 51st position in the latest FIFA ranking released on Thursday, November 22. After drawing 1-1 with Egypt at home in a final 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier played in Cape Coast, the Black Stars gained some points which boosted their ranking.

According to the ranking, the top 5 teams in Africa are; Senegal, Tunisia, Egypt, Congo DR, Morrocco. Senegal’s Lions of Teranga rose to the 23rd position – their highest-ever position on the global ladder – on the back of securing a first World Cup place since 2002.

They are now the top-ranked African nation, having leapfrogged fellow 2018 World Cup finalists Tunisia (27th, up 1) and Egypt (31st, down 1).

Ghana FIFA Ranking: Black Stars Captain Asamoah Gyan’s Advice Prior to Egypt Clash

All hope had been lost as Ghana lost all significant points needed to participate in the World Cup tournament in Russia.

Ghana’s loss killed every interest of Ghanaians with regards to the Egypt clash. But Captain Gyan had said that there was much at stake to play for in the game against Egypt.

He said that the Black Stars would not take the game against Egypt lightly because the team ought to win for the nation. The team he said was no longer playing for the World Cup but for pride.

Ghana he said, needed to win for the nation and also had to boost the FIFA ranking position. Ghana’s tactful display in the clash was also meant to prove that the Black Stars have are indeed competitive.
