Uriah Asante who played for Hearts of Oak FC as an offensive midfielder has been reported dead. According to the reports, Uriah Asante gave up the ghost at the Korle-Bu teaching Hospital Monday afternoon after suffering a cardiac arrest. He died at age 24.
His cousin Adolf Gyimah confirmed the news of his death on Kumasi-based Ashh FM on Monday.
Asante played for Hearts of Oak on loan from Pure Joy FC. He was a member of the gold winning team at the All Africa Games in Maputo five years ago. He had two seasons for the Phobians where he became one of the pillars of the team before leaving for Tunisia to play for Etoile du Sahel and EGS Gafsa.
Uriah was a graduate of the University of Ghana.
The loss is a sudden, premature and pathetic one. We send our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, and pray that his soul finds rest in the bosom of the Lord.
