JB Danquah’s Killer Charged With Murder; Says He Went To Steal and NOT to Kill

Alas! The long awaited prosecution is here. The 19 year old who is the suspected killer of the late JB Danquah at his residence has been officially charged with murder. Daniel Asiedu who confessed to committing the crime was today charged with murder at the Accra Magistrate Court. The police had sent him to the residence of the late MP to demonstrate how he committed the crime in order to aid investigations. The suspect who made his first appearance in court yesterday, being February 16, was charged based on his confession that he committed the crime. The police asserted that the suspect intentionally and unlawfully caused the death of the victim, according to the charge sheet.

For that you, on 9th February, 2016 at about 1:00am at Shiashie, East Legon in the Greater Accra Magisterial District and within the jurisdiction of this court, did intentionally and unlawfully cause the death of Hon. Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu, MP for Abuakwa North in the Eastern Region.” The charge sheet stated.

The charge sheet reads that, Daniel Asiedu went to the residence of JB Danquah at about 1:00am with “catapult, a cutter and a sharp knife…[went] through the iron fence at the blind side of the security man who was fast asleep.”

The suspect picked a ladder in the house and climbed to the porch of the top floor and entered the bed room through the window whilst the deceased was sleeping. Suspect began to search the room but deceased woke up and held him. He stabbed deceased on the right chest above the breast. Deceased held the knife and shouted for help but no one came. The suspect pulled the knife through the deceased hands creating a deep cut in his palm.

Deceased who was bleeding profusely fell by his bed helpless and the suspect stabbed him again on the right chest below the breast. Suspect realizing that the deceased was alsmost dead left him and took away his two iphones and a tablet. Suspect managed to descend from the top to the back of the house and climbed one of the poly tanks in the house and jumped over the electric fence into the adjoining house and escaped,” it added.

From what is stated on the charge sheet, we could draw that the suspect went to the victims house to steal but in the process, the late MP woke up, and held him. The deceased had begun struggling with him and so he pulled out a knife and stabbed him several times before the deceased became weak and fell down, and he the suspect escaped, making away with his two iPhones and a tablet.

The Late JB Danquah was found dead at his residence in Shiashie a week ago. Since then the police have been working tirelessly to get a grip on the culprit. An Accra Magistrate court presided over by his Lordship Steven Owusu remanded him into police custody after reading him the charge. The case has been adjourned to March 1.
