To think that super stars still remember to pray is quite inspiring. Russia-based defender Jonathan Mensah has revealed what he does to stay on top of his game at all times. According to Jonathan Mensah, his pre-match ritual is dominated by reading some Bible verses from the books of Psalms sent to him by his mother.
Jonathan Mensah says it is very essential to commune with God before proceeding to the field. According to FC Anzhi Makhachkala player, before leaving the hotel to go to the stadium, his mother always sends some verses from the Book of Psalms for him to read.”
He said that he reads the verses, before going for any game. Mensah who spoke to Cross The Line, said he likes to listen to worship music for about 15 minutes. He said he always prays with the quotations sent by his mother. Quoting the defender; he prays ”before and after the warm-up and again before the match starts”.
The defender said it is very important for him, and that he is not praying just because he’s a football star. He explained that if he wasn’t playing football he would definitely be praying about other things, which is why he should give God thanks for his wonderful deeds.
“Sometimes things happen in life, but thankfully, I can still run, talk, walk and play and that’s by the Grace of God,” he said.
Jonathan Mensah currently plays as a defender for Russian Football Premier League club FC Anzhi Makhachkala and equally the Ghana National Team. Popularly known as Mensah, he joined Anzhi Makachkala in 2015 from Evian Thonon Gaillard and he has played three times for the Russian side.
