Man United’s present coach has been under pressure after the clubs exit from the Champions league in the group stages. There had been few individuals who were considered likely to take over Van Gaal following some reports which said the Dutch coach was likely to leave United.

However, no deal has been struck between Mourinho and United since at the moment, the club is said to be indirectly interested in Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino too.

Mourinho was sacked from Chelsea in December 2015, seven months after he led them to the Premier league title. His former Chelsea FC had finished eight points clear last season and won the League Cup. He is said to be desperate to remain in England and hence, sees United as the perfect place to resume his career after being sacked by his former club.

United is at the moment six points behind fourth-placed City in the Premier League table and the Dutch coach Van Gaal is not likely to survive should the club fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League, having failed to get out of the group stages of the competition this term.
