President Mahama To Embark on Nationwide Farewell Tour

The purpose of Mahama’s farewell tour is to thank the people for their massive support throughout the period of his administration.

Outgoing President John Dramani Mahama will on Tuesday, December 20, begin a nationwide thank you and farewell tour following his defeat in the 2016 general elections.

President Mahama who lost in the just concluded elections, will meet with traditional and religious leaders as well as regional and constituency executives of his party – the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as part of his tour. Mahama’s farewell tour is to thank the people for their massive support over the years throughout the course of his administration.

Though the President’s itinerary for the tour has not been released, he is expected to start off from the Upper East Region before moving to the Upper West, Northern, Brong Ahafo, Ashanti, Eastern, Volta, Central and Western Regions. According to reports, Mahama’s tour of the greater Accra region will end on Friday December 30, 2016.

Supporters of the NDC got the greatest surprise on December 9, when the Electoral Commission announced Nana Akufo-Addo, as winner of the general elections. The just concluded elections saw Nana Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), win 53.85% of the total valid votes cast, against President Mahama’s 44.40%, to become the fifth President of Ghana’s fourth republic. President Mahama’s loss makes him the first incumbent to lose an election since Ghana returned to multi-party democracy in 1992.

Mahama who chose to accept the results, wowed the whole world when he conceded defeat, by putting a call through to the President-elect, to congratulate him on his victory.

Already, Mahama has received lots of commendations from notable personalities across the globe -including former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan.

Meanwhile, the outgoing President was few days ago, appointed Co-chair of the ECOWAS mediation committee in the political impasse in The Gambia.
