The physical description of the supposed Ghanaian ISIS officer has also been given. He is 1.7 meters tall and is said to be 26 years old.
A suspected ISIS recruit is reportedly on the run from Ghana Military High Command. According to reports, the military strongly suspects the officer has links to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Bearing the name Bawa Abdul Rahman, the officer reportedly disappeared after his commanders invited him for questioning and further investigations.
It was reported that the said officer jumped out of the vehicle which was sending him to his bosses for military interrogations. His absconding has given the military cause to intensify their search as it shows he definitely has something to hide. At the moment, the Public Affairs Directorate of the military has refused to release any statement on the issue. This has brought about a high sense of apprehensiveness among the military as well as the public. This is because in recent times, Ghana’s national security has hinted at possible penetrations by the dreaded terrorist group.
National security had presented a report to the Ministry of Education, where it warned against the group who has their delegates going about institutions recruiting candidates. It can be recalled that it was through a similar means that a graduate of Kwame Nkurumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Nazir Nortei Alema, and one other, joined the terrorist group in 2015. However, the said KNUST graduate was killed in an ISIS raid in Syria. His funeral was subsequently held here in Ghana, few months ago.
Meanwhile, the military has commenced a manhunt for the officer, and is really hoping to smoke him out from his hide out. No statements have so far been released by the national security as regards this recent development. We would bring you more information on this as events unfold.
