With some undisclosed proof, the incumbent NDC alleges that the opposition NPP is planning to rig the upcoming elections
The National Democratic Congress, NDC alleges that the New Patriotic Party, NPP is scheming to rig the 2016 elections. This comes moments after the opposition NPP said it had discovered several ballots, thumb-printed for President Mahama in a guest house, in the Ashanti Regional capital.
The incumbent party says it intercepted a leaked recording that proves that some leading members of the NPP, attempted to connive with some Election officers to rig the upcoming polls. The said recording, according to the party’s Campaign Coordinator Kofi Adams, included voices of NPP’s Prof Mike Oquaye and former National Organiser, Lord Commey. However, the evidence was not produced.
Kofi Adams who addressed a press conference on Monday, said that the incumbent party will report the matter to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, to take swift action. Speaking further, Mr. Adams condemned the alleged act and described it as an attack on Ghana’s electoral process. He also described it as a desperate move by the NPP to win more votes at the polls.
With the 2016 elections coming off in two days, tension has continued to rise among major contending political parties. The NPP had on Monday, said it had discovered several ballots thumb-printed for President Mahama in a guest house in the Ashanti Regional capital.
However, follow-up reports on the issue, revealed that the said ballot papers were fake. The Ashanti Regional EC Director who made this known, said that though the ballots bear stark resemblance with those of the EC, they have no serial numbers and are therefore fake.
