Otumfuo supports Major Mahama’s family…

The Wife and Children of the slain Major Mahama have received a donation from The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. This was when the deceased’s family paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace.

During the interaction, Otumfuo supports Major Mahama’s family with a sum of GHc 50,000 meant to be used to fund the education of the two children of the late soldier. The Asantehene described the fallen soldier as a noble man who served the nation well in his short life.

Late Major Mahama

He urged the family to leave everything that had happened into the hands of God, emphasizing that the donation was geared towards supporting the education of the late soldier’s children.

There have also been donations from people from all walks of life in support of the bereaved family, with the dead soldier since being promoted to the position of Major from his initial post of Captain.

The delegation that called on the Asantehene included the family head of Major Mahama, his father, and widow, Barbara Mahama. Otumfuo urged the family to take solace in the fact that God who blessed them with the Major has taken him back.

Major Mahama’s Death

The deceased, Major Mahama, an officer of the 5th Infantry Battalion, was killed by residents of Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region after he was mistaken to be an armed robber.

The soldier who was a captain at the time of his death was posthumously promoted from a Captain to a Major by President Nana Akufo-Addo. Late Major Mahama was given a state burial on June 9, 2017. He left behind a wife and two boys.
