Paintsil Granted Bail After All Said and Done

Former Black Stars defender, John Paintsil, has been granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court today, June 14. Paintsil who is standing trial for assaulting a police commander was granted bail to the tune of GHc 5,000 with one surety.

Paintsil allegedly slapped the East Legon District Police Commander, DSP Emmanuel Basintale in the right eye, during interrogation in a case of a car theft reported against him by his wife. Wife of the ex footballer had lodged a complaint against him at the East Legon Police Command for allegedly stealing her car.

They were reportedly invited to the station following the statement. However, the ex Ghanaian footballer was said to have attempted to walk out on the police when he felt the interrogations were compromised.

Subsequently, the commander reportedly ordered his arrest in order to enable him get information from him. This then led to him slapping the officer out of anger amid the fuss. Court had issued a bench warrant for Painstil’s arrest after he delayed appearing before it. However, the warrant was withdrawn following his sudden appearance before the court.

Issues between Paintsil and his wife have been hovering the media with different versions of their differences on almost every media site. Being in the news for the very wrong reasons, Paintsil has been reported to have assaulted his wife on several occasions which almost led to their divorce.

News of his wife filing a divorce against him at an Accra court has also been circulating, drawing the attention of the public to so many issues which she is said to have long borne in her marriage. However, it has not been ascertained if the couple are really getting a divorce, as it was rumoured that Paintsil refused signing the divorce papers.
