Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kevin-Prince Boateng has paid tribute to ailing footballer, Abdelhak Nouri, by dedicating his first goal for the German Football Club to the Ajax midfielder.
Kevin-Prince scored for the first time since joining Frankfurt last month in the club’s 0-1 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday, September 9. It was also his first goal in the Bundesliga since scoring in Schalke’s 2-1 win over Wolfsburg on 1st February, 2014.
Netting the opening goal to break the deadlock in the first half of the Matchday 3 trip to Gladbach, Boateng pulled up his Frankfurt jersey to reveal a red T-shirt with Nouri’s name and squad number written on the front.
This was Boateng’s passionate way of paying tribute to the young midfielder who suffered a severe and permanent brain damage after collapsing due to an irregular heartbeat during a pre-season friendly with Werder Bremen in Austria on July 8.
More interestingly, the Prince did not just dedicate his debut goal for Frankfurt to Nourri, he also said he has decided to wear the ‘Nourri shirt’ underneath his Jersey throughout this season.
Speaking during a brief interview at the end of the game, Kevin-Prince Boateng expressed happiness over his ability to help put his new team in the lead.
He also explained that his tribute to Nourri is aimed at letting him and his family know that they are being remembered and prayed for. According to the energetic midfielder, although he does not Know Nourri, his story really moved him.
Prince Boateng’s Eintracht Frankfurt Deal
German Football Club, Eintracht Frankfurt completed signing processes with former Las Palmas midfielder, Kevin-Prince Boateng on friday, August 18, 2017. The contract which is a three-year deal came just two days after the German-born Ghanaian player announced his departure from the Spanish side.
Boateng’s deal with Frankfurt is his third time return to Germany having previously played for Hertha Berlin and Schalke 04. Prince Boateng was reportedly expected to earn €4 million in his current contract.
Following the completion of the signing, Eintracht Frankfurt club authorities expressed confidence that Kevin-Prince will be an invaluable asset to the club as the new season kicks off.
The club’s director Fredi Bobic had said while commenting on Prince-Boateng;s signing: “We know Kevin’s strengths in midfield and are convinced that he can play a key role in our team.”
“Kevin is a winner with endless will,” he added.
Frankfurt coach, Niko Kovac also expressed pleasure and satisfaction over the signing, saying that ‘Prince will give this team a tremendous amount, and it will bring superior footballing qualities’.
Coach Kovac also believes that Kevin-Prince will be a leader for the team, and that the young players will benefit a lot from him.
Eintracht Frankfurt is a German sports club based in Frankfurt, Hesse. The club is best known for its association football club, currently playing in the Bundesliga, the top tier of the German football league system.
Since the beginning of the new season which kicked off on Friday August 18, Eintracht had clashed with SC Freiburg and Wolfsburg, recording a 0-0 draw and 0-1 defeat in the two matches respectively. Their 1-0 win against Gladbach on Saturday is their first victory in the season.
