Veteran actor Nii Odoi Mensah has died. He reportedly died in China after battling kidney failure for some years. According to reports, doctors had declared his two kidneys as incapable of functioning to keep him alive for a long period.
His unfortunate situation was publicly known when Nollywood actor, Muna Obiekwe also died of kidney failure. To keep himself alive, the former Actors Guild president reportedly spent $300 weekly for treatment of his kidney problems. According to reports he was told earlier in 2015 that he needed $3oo weekly for dialysis – which is a treatment used as an artificial replacement for lost kidney function.
Following the sad development, the veteran actor began appealing to individuals and organizations to support him financially. He had revealed he urgently needs $15,000 for further treatment in China. Nii Odoi Mensah had received help from different people. Ghanaian actress Juliet Ibrahim through her Juliet Ibrahim Foundation had donated to the ailing actor.
Reports say the actor was undergoing kidney transplant in China when he passed away. Nii Odo Mensah was billed to return to Ghana on Sunday. His death follows that of the actors guild president, Eddie Coffie who died late last year.
Nii Odoi Mensah was an actor and a former President of the Actors Guild. He has starred in several Ghanaian movies with some notable celebrities such as Grace Nortey, Brew Riverson Junior, Victor Lutterodt, and others.
This is not the first time a celebrity has been hit with a kidney deficiency. Some celebrities like Princess Shyngle have experienced this deadly disease. It is very unfortunate that Ghana’s Odoi Mensah has lost the fight with the disease. We sympathize with the family of the deceased.
