The notorious Takoradi armed robber who has been on the Police ‘wanted’ list for over two years was implicated in an earlier arrest made by the police in the area.
Kwesimintsim Police in the Western Region reveal they have arrested one of the most wanted and notorious dare devil robbers operating in Takoradi and its suburbs.
According to Superintendent Peter Lennox Aidoo who spoke to Takoradi-based Empire Fm, the police arrested the suspected armed robber, Nii Henry Addo nicknamed “Dollar Boy” in a hide-out in Cape Coast on Tuesday, September 5.
The Takoradi armed robber, who is allegedly linked to notorious gangster Atta Ayi, is said to have been on the Police list of most wanted criminals for over two years now.
Supt. Aidoo said that on August 19 at about 10:00 pm, Nii Henry Addo “Dollar Boy” and 2 others riding on an unregistered motorbike, attacked a woman and snatched her handbag containing Ghc9000, mobile phones, recharge cards and other valuable items.
The Police subsequently arrested one Kwame Amissah at a house perceived to be a criminal hideout at Anaji. A jungle motor bike suspected to be used for criminal activities, a black bag containing a car audio player, two pairs of scissors, four damaged cell phones, masks, and other tools were retrieved from.
However, while making his cautioned statement, Kwame mentioned “Dollar Boy”, as the owner of the retrieved items. It was this implication or rather revelation that led to the subsequent arrest of the notorious Takoradi armed robber.
Motorbike Robbery in Ghana
The menace of robbery attacks, especially the ones perpetrated using unregistered motorcycles is on the rise in recent times.
The attacks which mostly take place in major towns and cities has gotten to the level that criminals no longer care about the time of the day as they most of the times carry out their evil mission successfully be it night or broad daylight.
Recall that the leader of Ghana Freedom Party, Madam Akua Donkor in a similar attack had her handbag containing $30,000 and other valuable items snatched from her by a 2-man armed robbery gang riding on a motorbike.
Also, two dare devil robbers riding on an unregistered bike shot two police officers around the popular Las Palmas restaurant in Lapaz; an incident that left one of the policemen dead, and the other seriously injured.
In another similar incident, two robbers attacked a staff of Koala Supermarket last year. The robbers would have escaped without much ado if not for the timely intervention of a brave taxi driver who knocked them down with his vehicle.
Meanwhile, the Police have been making significant efforts to curb the menace as they have succeeded in bringing several of the criminals to book. However, Ghanaians are still hoping that more would be done by the present administration to see to the total elimination of this sort of rampant robbery attacks across the country.
