Eva, the baby with no brain was diagnosed of Anencephaly, an un-treatable condition where the brain of an embryo does not develop properly.
She is heavily pregnant and is going through the maladies of the process, but Keri is not expecting a baby per se. It is a sad but inspiring story of superhero mum Keri Young, who despite being told of a terminally ill fetus, decides to carry her baby to full term so she could donate her healthy organs.
Keri and her husband Royce Young, who live in Oklahoma, USA, are pregnant with a baby without a good brain. Eva, the baby with no brain was diagnosed of Anencephaly, an un-treatable condition where the brain of an embryo does not develop properly. This unusual condition occurs in just 6 of every 10,000 births in the UK.
This devastating condition means that the baby girl when she’s born, will have only a few hours or days to live before she passes.
Baby Eva still a fetus, has a perfect heart, perfect kidneys, perfect lungs, and a perfect liver; but sadly, she doesn’t have a perfect brain -meaning she cannot live longer than a few days. But Keri, mother of the baby with no brain; wishes to carry the pregnancy in line with her decision to help other ailing infants, by donating her baby’s healthy organs.
Following the devastating diagnosis of the illness by doctors, the heartbroken mother who is seven months gone, requested to continue with the pregnancy, so their “miracle” baby can help save lives.
Keri subsequently took to social media post last year December, to narrate their ordeal as well as relate her decision to keep the baby despite the odds; for the benefit of others.
With a photo from the scan, pregnant Keri who had about 20 more weeks to go, revealed how heartbroken she was on getting the news. She explained that though she will feel her kick, have the hiccups hear her perfect heart beat, they (Keri and Royce) will only get a few short hours with her when she’s born.
As it stands; Keri Young will never get to see her baby grow. However the young couple have made the decision that baby Eva, which Keri says means ‘life’, will be an answer to the prayers of other parents with ailing infants.
Moreso, amid the sorrow; this shear act of love and compassion has got people across the globe singing praises of the couple, especially the mother of the baby.
Keri’s Husband Royce Gushes Over Wife
An indepth and profound display of respect, love and admiration was also seen in Royce’s message to his wife whom he calls ‘brave’. Royce who is still in awe of his wife’s one in a million act, penned down a touching and inspiring tribute to his pregnant wife in a beautiful viral post on social media.
Though he will never get to see his daughter all grown, the father of the Anencephaly ridden unborn baby, sounded inspired and filled with love for his wife for taking such a brave decision.
“I looked at her laying there, her belly big with our daughter kicking away, a daughter that won’t live more than a few days, and it just overwhelmed me of how incredible this woman is”; Part of his post read.
While expressing profound admiration for his wife Keri, Royce who writes about basketball for
Keri has been in the trenches the entire time, feeling every little kick, every hiccup and every roll,” he wrote. “She’s reminded every moment of every day that she’s carrying a baby that will die. Her back hurts. Her feet are sore. She’s got all the super fun pregnant stuff going on.
Though it will be hard for the couple, Royce seems to have found solace in the idea that their baby will be a source of healing to other infants suffering from different organ disorders. This he revealed as he penned down an encounter he had with a young kid Jarrius, who needs a liver transplant.
Talking about the experience Royce explained that such an encounter gives them a sense of fulfillment, knowing that their daughter can be a “miracle” for another family in need of an organ donation for their baby -just as Jarrius and his family are hoping for their own miracle.
Royce stressed that they have made a choice; which is not the usual termination option. Their choice rather is that of choosing to bring their baby into the world and letting her life save others. Royce and Keri Young have a son together -2-years-old Harrison.
Anencephaly is the absence of a major portion of the brain, skull, and scalp that occurs during embryonic development. Children born with this disorder usually lack an essential part of the brain -the telencephalon, which consists mainly of the cerebral hemispheres, including the neocortex, which is responsible for cognition.
Infants with this disorder only survive a few hours and at most a few days after birth.
