Cynics, blame it on the event organizers. The beautiful Mcbrown’s Absence at the Kumawood Awards turns out not to be deliberate. She has revealed the reasons behind her absence at the recent Kumawood Akoben Festivals and Awards held at the Golden Tulip in Kumasi last weekend.
She said her absence can be blamed on the uncertainty of the dates. The dates were said to have changed up to two times, which led to her missing the real date of the event.
’The awards date was changed on two consecutive times so I wasn’t aware of the new date‘, she said.
Nana Ama Mcbrown alongside Kwadwo Nkansah Lil Win, Akwasi Boadu (Akrobeto), Rose Mensah Kyeiwaa, Vivian Jill, Mercy Asiedu, Agya Koo, Naana Hayford Domfeh, Matilda Asare, Maame Serwaa, and more were all said to have missed the event
The Kumawood Akoben is the award programme which recognizes film makers who use indigenous languages in their movies. It was the 5th edition of the award, and it was graced by different dignitaries including chiefs and some patrons who portrayed the unique culture of the people. The attendees also included some notable stakeholders in the movie industry as well as radio presenters in Kumasi.
Some reports had suggested that most of the actors and actresses who were absent were unhappy about the fact that only plaques was given to awardees. Some were said to have showed up but never got into the main venue of the event.
Vindicating herself, the multiple award-winning actress Nana Mcbrown said she was actually in Kumasi on the day of the event, but had no knowledge of it holding that day due to the inconsistency in the dates. There were also some co-ordination issues at the event which were later salvaged by the relentless efforts of the organizing team.
