On Tuesday, the 2nd of August, Mahama, Akufo-Addo verify names at their respective hometowns in preparation towards the imminent elections…
The two major presidential candidates went to their respective hometowns to have their registration details verified on the voters register in the ongoing voter registration exhibition exercise.
While President John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) went to a polling station in the Bole constituency in the Northern Region to check his registration details, Nana Akufo-Addo, the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate verified his at the Rock of Ages B Exhibition Centre in the Akyem Abuakwa South Constituency in the Eastern Region.
Enthusiastic supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) thronged the polling station where the President registered to witness their leader go through the verification process.
President Mahama made this known in a tweet. He encouraged registered voters to verify their details as well. Posting photos captured at the event, he wrote:
“I was at my polling station in Bole yesterday to check my name in the voter’s register. Have you checked yours?”
Nana Addo on his own part, went for the verification in the company of the party’s parliamentary candidate for the Abuakwa South Constituency, Samuel Atta Akyea. The flag bearer was taken through the procedure of verification by the electoral officers present at the polling station.
Addressing the media after the exercise, Nana Akufo-Addo expressed his satisfaction with the process. Describing it as a simple one, he indicated that he has only “one vote in the bank” for himself in this year’s presidential election.
The voters register exhibition is taking place in about 29,000 polling stations. This year’s exhibition is a 21-day exercise though it used to be a 14-day exercise before now. It started on July 18 and is expected to end August 7.
