When the news of Nana Addo’s arrival in Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region broke out, all business and commercial activities were put on hold, as every Tom, Dick, and Harry assembled to meet the NPP flag bearer. On Wednesday, May 18, Akufo Addo visited Ashaiman constituency, ending the first phase of his 4-day tour of the Greater Accra Region.
Though his visit was meant to be discreet, word of his visit one way or the other had gotten to thousands of people who rallied towards his convoy with joy an hope. The people were heard chanting and singing songs composed for Nana Addo. Some were chanting, “Nana you are our last hope, Nana come and save Ghanaians, Nana we are jobless”, and things like that.
NPP’s flagbearer touched all nook and crannies in Ashaiman including Old Turaku, Fitter Line, Asikafuo Ambantem, and Dagomba line.
Akufo Addo who went with the party’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Alhaji Labarran Yakubu, interacted with different groups of people resident in the area, including market women, small business owners, artisans, and hundreds of unemployed young men and women.
According to reports, Nana Addo first visited Old Turaku where business owners complained bitterly about the unfavourable economic conditions which has hugely affected their businesses, leading to a financial crisis in their families. In response to their plight, Nana Addo who also acknowledged the difficult conditions assured that his government will make Ghana “work” again.
NPP’s flagbearer also visited Fitter Line which is the main hub for artisans in the constituency. He used the opportunity to clear the air on the NDC-led propaganda about him. According to him the ruling party is only employing such strategies to tarnish his image. Nana Akufo-Addo urged the people to turn out in their large numbers and vote for the party in the coming elections.
“look at the NPP this year. We are coming to do a job for Ghana and not for any particular group, so we bring work, business opportunities, and employment for the young people of Ghana. That is the NPP plan.”, he said.
He also gave a hinted the unemployed youths in the constituency of a German ‘Dual System’ Apprenticeship scheme which he plans to introduce in Ghana when voted into power. The scheme which is done in Germany at the moment gives young people the opportunity to go to school and work with big companies at the same time.
Alhaji Labarran Yakubu, assured the Nana Addo that the constituency would vote massively for the NPP in the coming elections.
