President Mahama’s Volta claims that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) did nothing substantive in terms of development projects in the Volta Region during their tenure have not gone down well with the NPP
The pre-election activities by the contending parties is gradually turning into a political brouhaha. President Mahama’s Volta claims that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) did nothing substantive in terms of development projects in the Volta Region during their tenure have not gone down well with the NPP. Mahama Speaking to the chiefs and people of Keta in the Volta Region, attributed all the projects that the region has seen since the inception of the fourth republic to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party.
He said that the NPP on the other hand has nothing to show for being in power for 8 years which was from 2001 to 2009. However the big wigs of the NPP party including former President Kufuor have frowned at Mahama’s Volta claims. Kufuor has lashed out on Mahama for making such claims and equally, such comments about the NPP.
Kufuor on the defence of the NPP said that NDC have lavished money meant for the development of the Volta Region particularly in their handling of the Keta Sea Defense Project. The former president said it was during his tenure that the wall was constructed.
The Volta Regional Chairman of the NPP, John Peter Amewu, has also accused Mahama of playing tribal politics in the region by attributing those claims to the NDC party so as to set the residents against the NPP. Speaking at a press conference held in Ho to respond to Mahama’s statements, he outlined the projects which were achieved by the NPP during their regime. He said that contrary to Mahama’s Votla claims, the NPP has achieved a whole lot in 8 years, compared to the combined NDC’s 16 years in power.
John Amewu also encouraged Voltarians not to be gullible towards the claims of the NDC as they are just to set the Voltarians against them.
