A group of soldiers torture a 16-year-old boy to unconsciousness with their reason being that he stole a mobile phone.

To think the reason behind this is because the boy stole a mobile phone is alarming. The boy is currently at a community hospital in Nsawam in the Akuapim South Municipal District of the Eastern Region. The 16-year-old was accused of stealing a Tecno mobile phone belonging to a soldier, Corporal Samson Atuahene.

It was gathered that before the teenager was subjected to torture the two soldiers pointed guns at his head to get him confess to stealing the phone. Though he claimed not to have stolen the phone, he was beaten mercilessly, and is said to be in critical condition at the hospital.

According to reports, the boy has been a servant to the soldier for years. Bearing that in mind, the soldiers still beat him up till he fell unconscious. Reports from the hospital said that the boy’s situation is very serious and that he needs advanced medical examination at a higher facility to save his life.

Some reports also said that to further press on the boy to produce the missing phone he claimed he never took, the two soldiers, according to an eyewitness, melted polythene bags and dropped them on the boy’s bare body until he regained consciousness. It has not been ascertained if there were people who watched the soldiers torture the boy.

Meanwhile, nothing has been heard about the boy’s parents or other family members. This horrible incident took place at Tamale in the Northern Region.

No further reports have been made on this. Ghanaians are really hoping the soldiers responsible for this illicit act are brought to book. Inhumane assaults like this need to be decisively handled to avoid recurrence of similar situations.
