It was a very unpleasant experience for West Ham newcomer Andre Ayew, when he limped off before half time, in the Premier League opener at Chelsea, with an injury. Andre Dede Ayew who recently signed a three-year contract with the Hammers, injured himself on his West Ham Premier League debut against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
Chasing after Chelsea Forward Eden Hazard, Andre Ayew suffers injury 34 minutes into the game. He reportedly overstretched his muscles, in his bid to catch up with the Chelsea opponent. Following the said injury, the 26-year-old came to an unexpected halt as he couldn’t move his thighs. Dede Ayew subsequently received treatment on the pitch before limping off. He was then replaced by former Chelsea youngster Gokhan Tore.
The extent of the his muscle injury has not been known but, reports reveal that the ex-Swansea player will undergo tests on Tuesday to ascertain the extent.
Chelsea won 2-1 in the game with West Ham, through Eden Hazard’s goal and a late strike from Diego Costa. Though he was a former Chelsea midfielder, ex Black Star Michael Essien, was very disappointed to see his former team mate suffer injury only 34 minutes into his West Ham career.
The Hammers’ next move regarding the Ghana international will be decided on, as soon as the result from the scans are out. Ayew on August 8, 2016, went on a transfer signing to West Ham United on a three-year contract (with an extra two years option) for a club record fee of £20.5 million.
