Popular Hollywood actor Boris Kodjoe celebrates his Ghanaian nativity in a way that I’m sure will really fascinate you! Check it out…
Just this Wednesday Boris Kodjoe celebrates his native land, Ghana after taking a long trip down the memory lane. The Hollywood actor delved deep into the past and came about a family picture that told a great part of the story of his nativity.
Posting the photo on Facebook, Boris tells us a short story which it represents.
Accra Ghana circa 1950.
My grandparents, Chief of Police Joseph Cecil Ofuatey-Kodjoe and Elsie Ofuatey-Kodjoe, and behind them standing from left to right, my father Eric, Kiddie, and Freddie. Why my aunt Esther wasn’t in the picture I do not know. This shot was taking a few years before Kwame Nkrumah led Ghana (formerly Gold Coast) to Independence from Britain.
Side note; my grandmother didn’t look into the lens because she didn’t know where it was. She had gone blind from cataract left untreated. I never noticed she was blind because she would always comment on my clothes and what I was doing. Little did I know that while I was sitting on her lap her housekeeper was feeding her intel in her native dialect. By the way, she founded the girl scouts in Ghana.
Many of us may not have even known that the Hollywood star is a Ghanaian. Of course, he is not the only Hollywood actor with Ghanaian descent who have been disguised by much contact with the European world; [see more of them here].
Boris Kodjoe was born Boris Frederic Cecil Tay-Natey Ofuatey-Kodjoe on March 8, 1973 in Vienna, Austria, to Ursula, a German psychologist of partially Jewish descent, and Eric Kodjoe, a Ghanaian physician who is of the Krobo people.
Kodjoe is perhaps best known as one of the seven regular cast members from the Showtime drama Soul Food, which aired from 2000 to 2004. The 43-year-old actor is popular for the Hollywood films Love and Basket Ball, Madea’s Family Reunion, Brown Sugar, etc. In 2002, he was named one of the “50 Most Beautiful People in the World” by People magazine.
He got married in 2005 to Nicole Ari Parker, his Soul Food: The Series co-star. They have two kids; a boy and a girl.
