Ghanaian Stars Loose At The AMVCA Awards

On Saturday, 7th March 2015, African movie giants and industry players met in the plush EKO Expo Centre in Lagos for this year’s Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA). The event was hosted by IK Osakioduwa and Vimbai Mutinhir who did their best to keep the place lively and event fun.

Ghana lost out of the 2015 edition as the Ghana’s contingent of Shirley Frimpong-Manso, Adjetey Anang, Zynnell Zuh, Lydia Forson, Nana Akua Manso, Duaba Serwaa, Ophelia Crosslands andDavid Amah did not garner enough votes to win any of their nominated categories.

The biggest winner on the night was the Nigerian psychological thriller October 1, a movie about Nigeria’s Independence Day which scooped nine awards including Best Movie and Best Director for and Best Actress (Drama) award for Kehinde Bankole. The Meeting also nabbed five awards including Best Movie (Comedy) awards for Rita Dominic and Mildred Okwo, Best Actress (Comedy) for Rita Dominic and a Best Actor (Comedy) award for Femi Jacobs.

Even though all the Ghanaian movies that went for the awards didn’t win anything, we hope they do better next year but it was a great night as they gracefully turned up and shared in the glory of their colleagues. The ceremony witnessed performances from some of Africa’s biggest music stars including Diamond, Don Jazzy and the Mavin Crew, P-Square and others.
